A lively, dance-like fugue in three voices. The long combines staccato leaps with dancing triplets, and an equally striking companion line (the countersubject) accompanies it as the voices swap roles and pass through many keys. The opens the fugue, and later a starts. Towards the end the music stops twice on harmonic pauses before it carries on, and then the begins.
Section boundaries in music are not always sharp; a transition may be felt over a pause or a held chord.
