A quiet, song-like (A) in G minor opens the piece and is stated twice more. In the B section the music moves to E-flat major and turns to slow, hymn-like chords. The opening (A) comes back, and then again. A short (a little ) follows, and the final chord is major: a Picardy third.

Section boundaries in music are not always sharp; a transition may be felt over a pause or a held chord.
