The opens with a long Arpeggiated in F major: broken chords race up and down the keyboard in a free, improvisatory style. The / A is a broad melody carried in the top voice above continuing arpeggios, and B answers it with a second . A works this material further, the B- brings the second back, and the music then winds down through Arpeggios, B- and a , built over a long-held bass note, before the Final Arpeggiation sweeps up to the last chord.

Section boundaries in music are not always sharp; a transition may be felt over a pause or a held chord.
